Sketchup Layout Work Flow

Using Sketchup and Layout to developed 3d images and 2d views for a client that needed presentation images for a meeting. Task was very simple with Sketchup and Layout, the first step was to convert a roof plan from pdf to cad and then I inserted this cad drawing to my Sketchup model. All dimensions and text were done in Sketchup Layout. The scope is to replace existing roof top units like the one that is shown in the first image below with new one's. Two alternatives were draft one with a roof curb and one with a steel base.

Some people might think that Sketchup and Sketchup Layout are software's for architectural visualization only and still haven't explore it in other disciplines. In my case I've done a bit of everything with it and gotten fantastic results. Some might say that they don't have the utilities to develop construction drawings but I have experience the opposite.

Not only you can create stunning presentations by adding text, images, etc. but if you have your scrapbooks tailored to your needs is fast and accurate when it comes to construction drawings. As a freelance drafting proffesional clients call me to developed simple details for their projects. I usually developed this details in sketchup and then export them to autocad, on this particular projects I worked with sketchup and layout.

Using Sketchup and Layout has help me developed 3d images and 2d construction drawings of projects for my clients in a very simple work flow. When we start a project I receive from my client scans in jpg format via email of floor plans, elevations, sections or details for the given project. Let me point out that all this information that my client provides are sketches and I transform those images into a real 3d model with Sketchup. When it comes to the creation of 2d construction drawings I use Layout.

Combining this two software we do things faster, the concept of my client is easily explained in his presentations and we create more accurate details of the project. Mechanical Chase Platforms

This work is in progress, it will be done in sketchup and sketchup layout. Our challenge is to prepare a working set of drawings of two existing chases in a building with only two access to these chases, our task is to gathered information at field and create actual views of conditions that contractors will engage when the construction of platforms take place inside of each chase. The absence of ilumination and not nowing what is inside the chases are very complicated issues every time maintanence personel or a contractor needs to service this area in the building, we now that the answer to this problem is to have a 3D model that illustrates the conditions that are inside those chases. Sketchup Layout

This is my Latest Sketchup Model and Layout Presentation it was a weekend project for a friend of mine. All elevations and sections were exported from scene's in Sketchup and dimensions, notes and images were develop in Layout. Cool stuff to be a project in early stages and in progress. I hope you like it, I just wanted to demonstrate how Sketchup and Layout work together. If any body out there needs help on any given project just call me.
